Certified Safety – Nr.21/2009

b maXX-safePLC awarded TÜV Certification

Nuremberg. The b maXX-SafePLC programmable safety controller has been certified by TÜV Rheinland. This documents that the safety-oriented control system meets the requirements of EN 61508 to Safety Integrity Level 3 and EN ISO 13849-1 to Performance Level e for safety-relevant applications.

The b maXX-safePLC is a combined standard safety controller and two-channel safety controller. With its excellent real-time performance and highly synchronized real-time functions, the b maXX-safePLC is ideally suited for PLC and motion control tasks. The ProMaster programming environment is used for easy programming of the safety-oriented application and for the configuration of the b maXX-safePLC, in combination with the EtherCAT communication module, decentralised and hybrid safety topologies can also be implemented with the FSoE safety protocol.

The safety control is scalable, depending on the requirement of simple or complex machine architectures. Thus complex wiring can be eliminated and the effort for cabling and testing minimized. Moreover, the multiple coupling of units is no longer required, resulting in significantly lower system costs as part of a total cost-calculation.

The integrated security measures and internal data-logging offered by the b maXX-safePLC ensures that any manipulation or causes of error in the event of damage can easily be traced, and faults swiftly rectified.

Downtime can be reduced significantly when the b maXX-safePLC is used as a safety control due to the swift detection of faults. Safety engineering therefore does not result in a reduction of machine availability, but is rather an opportunity to increase both the productivity and flexibility of machines and systems.
